Hay Shelters

HAY SHELTERS

Research shows that protecting hay in a storage facility preserves its quality and quantity. The most significant loss to hay stored outside happens as a result of wetting and drying on the bale's surface. When exposed to this cycle over time, hay deteriorates, the protein is broken down and eventually becomes unavailable to livestock.

The amount of loss depends on the amount of moisture coming in contact with the bale as well as the length of time the bales are outside left exposed to the elements. Research results vary, but storing hay outside can result in a loss of 6% to 30% versus bales stored under cover.

By storing your bales in a protected shelter, you can reduce your loss due to spoilage and keep the quality of your feed intact.
